French Lessons
The three team coordinators
At SPRH, we believe that learning the local language is one of the most powerful tools for integration and autonomy. The French Lessons teamworks to make this process accessible, personal, and human for asylum seekers and refugees newly arrived in France.
Each week, our volunteers offer small-group French lessons tailored to each learner’s needs, whether it’s learning the basics for daily life, improving written expression, or gaining the confidence to communicate with institutions. More than language teaching, these sessions are moments of exchange, trust, and mutual learning, helping newcomers feel welcomed and supported.
Our classes take place in partnership with several centres across Paris, including the Halte Humanitaire Rivoli, Halte Humanitaire Diderot, and the Résidence Albin Peyron. By working directly within these spaces, volunteers meet learners where they are, fostering regular, flexible, and meaningful interactions.
Beyond grammar and vocabulary, the French Lessons team promotes connection and empowerment, helping each person take their first steps toward independence, understanding, and belonging in their new environment.
The Langue & Chances Program
As part of the French Team, the Langue et Chance program supports non-French-speaking parents in learning French to foster school inclusion.
Because following a child’s education starts with understanding the language, we offer personalized, in-home lessonsdesigned to meet each family’s needs.
Our goals are to help parents integrate into the school community and to free children from the role of interpreters, creating an environment that supports both academic success and family empowerment.
